Welcome to the world of David Thalmann Fine Art Photography. After a 30-year professional career in corporate banking and leverage finance based in New York City, I retired to Newport, Rhode Island in 2004. Since that time I have be able to focus much of my attention pursuing my longstanding photography hobby and have been organizing my vast collection of photographs amassed over years traveling around the world for business and pleasure. My work has been exhibited and sold in galleries along the east coast from Maine to Florida. In addition, my work has been exhibited and sold as far away as the mainland of Tanzania and in Stonetown on the Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar.

The images are digital photographs primarily taken outdoors in the early morning or late afternoon hours when natural light can be used to best effect. My work is representative of the fun and challenge of finding images in nature when composition, light and color combine to create special moments. The subject matter is diverse and reflects my many interests. A love of color and shapes lead me to create a collection of abstract images while an appreciation for simplicity and an interest in horticulture lead me to create a collection of white flowers that is forever expanding.

For every special moment captured there are hundreds of images that remain illusive as the sun moves from sunrise to sunset. Many images remain forever etched on my mind, however, and can be fondly recalled during quiet moments. Moreover, happily there always is a tomorrow that will bring new creative challenges and more special moments.

I print my photographs on a heavy (190 gsm) fine art watercolor paper which features a specially coated, matte finish and a fiber content that is 100% rag, acid free with a neutral pH balance.

REVIEWS

"David Thalmann takes full advantage of the power to capture an image on a card containing ones and zeros instead of a roll of film. He also exploits the power to modify that image once he's got it in the computer. His modifications are minimal. You won't see any radical, otherworldly distortions. What you will see are subtle changes that are still recognizably of this world. The effect resembles the compromise between real and the imagined reality you see in representational painting. It also evokes the hand-tinted effects created by photographers working in the early 1900s...........Although what you're looking at are objects in the real world, what you see is a pure meditation on the power of composition and form. Less, as always, is more." -Marty Fugate, The Observer - Sarasota, Florida

"Two photographers on display (Justin Freed and David Thalmann) feature old and new styles and techniques. It's an opportunity to compare the techniques practices at a high level of professionalism. Both photographers have a distinct, authentic vision while sharing a natural tendency, both in subject and color, toward romanticism." - Kevin Costello, The Pelican Press - Sarasota, Florida

I use a white, 8-ply museum quality acid free mat with the prints but will also use colored 4-ply mats on occasion. Special mat requests are accepted.

The time you take to review my photographs is appreciated and your comments are invited. If you wish to discuss purchasing any of the images please initially contact me at [email protected] with the photo album name and numbers of the photographs you are interested in.
